For me, the Christmas season starts on the first advent. We start baking my all-time favorite Christmas cookies on this particular Sunday and light the candles. Of course, the Christmas decorations need to be taken out of the big "Christmas decoration box" where they've been sleeping all year. Candles, lights and little Christmas ornaments are placed in every room.

Christmas ornaments |
What would Christmas be like without all the Christmas markets? I have no idea how many Christmas markets you can find in Berlin. It's a lot. And it's hard to see all of them during the season. The ones in the downtown area are always packed with people. They are very touristy. The more you enter the outer districts of the city, the cosier the Christmas markets get.

Christmas market in Berlin with a merry-go-round |
The real special day of Christmas is Christmas Eve. Particularly
young children are very excited about this day, as Santa brings them
some presents. In the morning, the Christmas tree is taken out. We
usually have a fake one in my family. But this time, we had our very own
tree from our garden. It looked slightly funny because it wasn't as
beautiful as the ones you can buy. It had its very own style and was
therefore special to us.

this year's Christmas tree |
Before we all get our presents, we go
for a walk around the block. When we get return home, we start giving each other
presents, which are placed underneath the Christmas tree. We always have
sausages and potatoe salad for dinner. For desert: fruit salad (for
those who like it: with whipped cream). Afterwards, we watch some
Chritsmas movies or play games together.
